Competition Dancers
The best of all four worlds in one place! Not only is the Calgary Dance Stampede a fully sanctioned, qualifying event for the United Country Western Dance Council (UCWDC) Country Dance World Championships but we are also a points registry event for the World Swing Dance Council (WSDC) and the Country Two Step Tour (CTST) but also your DanceHall Country Swing destination.
Information you need to know before registering to compete.
Come to the Calgary Dance Stampede for an unforgettable weekend of unmatched excitement in championship dance sport!
While many people view these styles of dance as a recreational activity, they have become more often viewed as a sport. Competitive Country, West Coast Swing and Line Dance are a popular, widespread activity in which competitors perform several different dances in front of a common group of judges who evaluate and score each dancer. The competitive country dance industry largely consists of regional dance events, such as the Calgary Dance Stampede which is a Fully Sanctioned UCWDC Country Dance World Championship qualifying event. What that means is that dancers who compete at these regional sanctioned competitions are looking at earning top placement in their division and to secure themselves a qualification for the Country Dance World Championships held in January. In addition, the Calgary Dance Stampede is a recognized points registry event for the World Swing Dance Council (WSDC) and Country Two Step Tour (CTST). This allows those dancers to gain valuable points in which they may advance in different skill levels.
Dancers who compete usually range in age from about six to sixty-five years old. Competitive dancers must be physically fit because even short dances can be physically demanding. Also, dancers must continuously train to maintain and improve their technique, balance skills, strength and flexibility. Competitive dancing requires dedication as many months may be spent practicing dance and developing dance routines.
