YES ... The event is open to the general public to come and watch some of the best dancers in the World compete! More glamour than "Dancing With The Stars"; so close you can almost reach out and touch them. We are Competitive Country Dancing with a distinctive blend of athleticism, traditional country dance technique and enthusiastic showmanship!
General Spectator Admission is FREE with donation of a non-perishable food item per person
that will be distributed to the Calgary Food Bank

NO ... singles, couples and groups may attend the Calgary Dance Stampede. Anyone can attend as a spectator and if you want to attend the Workshops, you DO NOT need a partner. All of our instructors rotate people in the class so everyone has a chance to learn.

"Outlaw" workshops are only available thru the purchase of our Stampede Pass. They are workshops by our Top VIP Staff and Teachers. Not everyone is a VIP and those who are have been teaching for many, many years and have created a very strong and unique teaching style that has accelerated them to being sought after all over the world. "Outlaw" workshops are scheduled a minimum of once ever session and include as many as 35 throughout the weekend. They are the highest attended workshops in the weekend, so make sure you get your Stampede Pass and get there early so you do not miss out!

5. How does the seating assignments for the Campfire Ball Professional Dance Showcase work ? |

When purchasing your event pass your seating is assigned for the "Campfire Ball" Professional Dance Showcase based on a First Sold = Best Seat Basis. What that means is that the sooner you register for your show tickets the better, and closer to the front seats you will receive !! Only 600 seats available!

Because Calgary is located in the eastern foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, the weather can be unpredictable. Calgarians have learned to dress in layers, ready for any type of weather Mother Nature presents us. There is usually not allot of snow left in Calgary in mid April because of the warm winds that come from the West coast across the Rocky Mountains. They are called "Chinooks" and they keep the snow low as well as the average temperatures up in Calgary.
April's average temperature ranges from -2 Deg. C to +12 Deg C (29 Deg. F to 54 Deg. F).

Once you register (phone, fax or on-line) an email conformation will be sent to you with all your event pass information. This is also your event receipt, so please do not lose it.
All pre-event registrations are kept on-site and you may come down to the Hyatt Regency during the event and pick up your package at the Event Registration Desk. The package will be held for you (under the registrars name) at the desk. It will include your passes, event programme, dinner and show tickets (if purchased) as well as tons of other event and vendor information you'll need to have a fantastic time! Sorry - We do not mail out event tickets/passes.

Competitive dancing is for those who love to dance and who want to take their dance to the next level. Anyone, of Any Dance Ability can compete. There are many levels of dance competition and we can help you choose which level is right for you. You can compete in the Open Divisions (against all ages), or you may choose to compete in the Age Divisions (against same age. - eg. 30 year olds, 40 year olds, etc.). You can also choose from many different dances and styles of dance. If you have a partner you may choose to dance as a Couple or if you are single you may choose to dance as a Pro-Am with your instructor.
Competitive Dancing can be done locally, or you can choose to travel throughout North America and Europe to different events. Seeing new cities, meeting new people and making new friends.

ProAm is danced by an AMateur student with his/her PROfessional dance instructor, therefore you DO NOT NEED A PARTNER. Only the amateur is judged based on how well he/she meets the standards for their division and level. Each division/level is judged by certified professionals and the awards/standings are based on a medal system (Gold, Silver, Bronze, etc.). You may have been watching "Dancing With The Stars"? This competition is a PRO-AM competition, where the Amateur is a celebrity that is teamed up with a Professional dancer/instructor.

Contestants must wear costumes that are "Country Western" and are appropriate to the dance, the arena, and the person wearing them. A visible yoke is a guide, but not a guarantee that the costume looks country. Cowboy boots must be worn except in the Syllabus, Newcomer and Division IV where they are recommended, but not required. Cowboy hats for men must be worn except in Syllabus, Newcomer and Division IV where they are recommended, but not required. Hose (nylons or tights) and dance pants for women are required, if either are exposed.

There is a registration fee as well as a fee to attend the event. The registration fee is the same if you are a spectator or competitor and includes all parts of the event, including workshops and social dancing. So as a competitor you get the best of both worlds!

ALL UCWDC Competitors must Pre-Register and Purchase a STAMPEDE or GENERAL Weekend Pass.
$1.00 from every UCWDC & CTST competition registration goes towards the individual organization to fund their ever expanding operations, including competitor services such as Points Registries, Website and competition rules/guidelines and event support.

To enter a competition, you must first be a member of the United Country Western Dance Council (UCWDC) to compete in Country.
You can also compete in some more social dance competitions such as West Coast Swing and Two-Step. You do not need to be a member of the UCWDC to compete socially.
You must also send your registration (entry) to the registration staff of the competition before the posted deadline. A fee is required to attend and compete.

Yes you do need to be an Associate Member of the UCWDC to compete.
ALL UCWDC Competitors and Professionals including Newcomer and Teams must poses a valid UCWDC Associate Membership in order to compete. You can apply on-line by CLICKING HERE.

You can choose to compete in three different styles of dance. Couples, Pro-Am and Line Dance.
The first level of competition is called Syllabus which has a set syllabus of regulation steps. After that follows Newcomer, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced.
There are also age divisions so that many competitors can compete against people their own age. You can compete in Primary (-10), Youth 10-13), Teen (14-17), Open (+18), Crystal (+30), Diamond (+40), Silver (+50), Gold (+60) and Platinum (+70).

In Couples or Pro-Am there are eight different dances to choose from. Triple-Two, Polka, Nightclub, Cha Cha, Waltz, Two-Step, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing. In Line Dance the dance is dependent on a specific piece of music and include Rise & Fall, Cuban, Pulse, Smooth, Novelty and Funky.
If you compete in Newcomer Couples or Pro-Am you can start with any of the eight dances. If you compete in a higher division, you must start with Two-Step.
If you dance Newcomer in Line Dance you would dance Lilt, Smooth and Novelty. If you compete in Novice you would dance Rise & Fall, Smooth, Cuban and Novelty for age divisions and Funky for Open Divisions. For Intermediate you would dance Rise & Fall, Smooth, Pulse, Cuban and Novelty for age divisions and Funky for Open Divisions.

Don't forget that competitions are run in a very friendly atmosphere where everybody supports one another. We always have many Calgary and Edmonton competitors at competitions and spectators coming to watch. They all give great support and cheer for the Calgary couples, and are great for answering questions if you need a bit of help. It's a fun activity where you can socialize and have a great dancing experience.
